20 Horus Heresy Solar Auxilia Trooper Colour Schemes and Painting Recipes All In One Place

Horus Heresy? Oh you mean the game and book series focusing upon Space Marines kicking seven shades of Athonian Camo out of each other? Yes. But there’s more to it than that. Other factions of humans and not quite humans were rolling around in the 31st millennium. Not least of which, by a long way, are the Solar Auxilia. And they now have new plastic models in the Horus Heresy tabletop game. Not only that, Games Workshop sent one of the Solar Auxilia Battle Group boxes my way (you can already see where this is going, right?). So what did I do? Yep. Twenty Solar Auxilia Troopers in twenty different colour scheme with their recipes and methods attached into easy to refer to cards for your viewing pleasure.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Karandras Green/Warpstone Glow miniature card has an error. It should be Warp Lightning instead of Warpstone Glow for that. My apologies.

A few quick tips on these if I may. First of all, building wise, absolutely quadrouple check the connection between the pauldron and the chestplate is open. Sur eif it’s not nobody’s really going ot notice, but it can make getting that pauldron in pretty fiddly. Far as painting goes, for the lenses, I found it miles easier to get everything going by applying a little Corax White into it, then putting a thin line of Ulthuan Grey at the very base of the lens before applying a thinned down contrast to it in several layers, receeding upwards. To double cheat, hold the model upside down while doing this. The paint will dry in seconds and, unless you’re using red because that stuff refuses to let anything be Not Red, you’ll have a fancy looking gradient for precisely zero effort.

Hope that helps you in painting your Solar Auxilia Troopers! If you happen to follow this guide and find it helpful by all means feel free to let me know on X/Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky, Threads, or anywhere you can find me on the Internet!
