Dark Angels Inner Circle Companions and Deathwing Knights Alternative Contrast Colour Schemes and How to Paint Them

If someone says Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine Dark Angels, the mind immediately says dark green. Well, that and ‘lol Chaos Space Marines’. Say Deathwing and the image which springs to mind, unless it’s a big metal-scaled dragon, is of bone coloured Terminators striding into battle. Say Ravenwing and it’s a whole tide of black armour and white detailing, generally on bikes or in Land Speeders. But this isn’t always the case. The Dark Angels successor chapters, often referred to as the Unforgiven, don’t tend to stray far from their parent chapter. They have Ravenwing and Deathwing portions of their own forces. Often, too, they’re slightly different to those of the First Legion. But what do they look like, and how does one paint them?

Well here’s some guides! First up, five for Deathwing Knights. In doing these I swung for variants on existing Successor or potential Successor Chapters who may have had a link in the distant past of some background snipped somewhere. There’s the Angels of Redemption’s Redwing, a Deathwing Knight from the Angels of Vigilance, one in the old Heresy sort of I’d imagine would carry in from the Consecrators, one which takes the teal of the Knights of Abhorrence and turns it into their full armour, and a Star Phantom, because they sure do not have a great relationship with the Dark Angels and because why not.

Now then, what about the Inner Circle Companions? Well for these I threw the existing Successor Chapter schemes out of the window and decided to tread into the world of ones we’ve never seen or never heard of. They’ve got no names, no nothing, but they exist purely to show you what can be done with different colour schemes to the norm on Dark Angels Inner Circle Companions.

Hope that helps you in painting your Deathwing Knights and Inner Circle Companions! If you happen to follow these guide and find them helpful by all means feel free to let me know on X/Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky, Threads, or anywhere you can find me on the Internet!
