Age of Sigmar: Dawnbringers New Harbingers Miniatures Paint Schemes and Guides

Those folks from Games Workshop are bringing out a new campaign for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. Dubbed Dawnbringers, it details further changes and shifts in the ever-evolving background of Age of Sigmar. A little akin to Malign Portents of the past, but whether or not it’ll bring in something new to the tune of anything as potent or game-changing as Endless Spells remains to be seen.

More importantly, though, it’s brought a swathe of new miniatures. Four in fact, one for each Grand Alliance. Games Workshop sent me a copy of each for promotional purposes and I decided to paint them in alternative colour schemes. So here you go!

Stick around after you’re done looking through the images for a little tidbit of hobby facting.

Harbinger of Decay

Marrowscroll Herald

Rabble-Rowza

Grimhold Exile

Still here? Okay now here’s the tidbit.

See that Grimhold Exile up there? The ghostly fella with the stone axes? That model very nearly ended up in the Dead Pile for life. If you’re in the UK, you’ll be well aware that it’s been A Bit Warm for the last few weeks. And me, being smart, decided to spray when it was too warm, resulting in an unpleasantly fuzzy and all but ruined outcome. All my plans for the model went out the window right there and then. That is until two little words passed through my head.

What If…

The fuzzy finish wiped out any hope of my usual smooth contrast over smooth undercoats with careful highlights painting routine. As a result, I decided to go whole hog and try painting this with no highlights of any kind, nothing that could catch on the brush as it was running over a heaving pectoral muscle and leave the Grimhold Exile’s chest looking like the dotted line on whatever a ‘sharing’ packet of sweets is.

So I grabbed the drybrush, grabbed the contrasts, put aside the 2, 1, and 0 brushes and got to work. The result? A quite nice conceptual look which sure won’t win any awards anywhere but it’s effective and could make the whole Regiment of Renown he’s in if not an entire army turn some heads!

If you give these or any schemes a try, or just want to poke me about how amazing Deathstrike Missiles are, you can find me on Twitter (while it draws breath), Instagram, Mastodon, Hive and Bluesky (both of which are Vincentknotley.

Have a happy hobby day fellow hobby human!

All four of the miniatures shown here and their associated boxes with the additional materials within them were sent to me for free by Games Workshop for promotional purposes.
